Limerick U20s needed to win this one to keep qualification from their pool in their own hands. When questions were asked of the U20s they delivered big time with an excellent 2-0 win over Munster rivals Waterford United. The large crowd at Pearse Stadium, Janesboro, was treated to a strong performance throughout the team and to a goal that can only be described as spectacular.
Limerick put the visiting team under pressure from the off. Darren Lynch shot just wide and Daniel Clinton headed over from a cross by Ian Storan. However Waterford game back into the game and it remained scoreless at half time.
Twenty five minutes into the second half a terrific move by Limerick lead to the first goal. Derek Daly exchanged passes with Dean Finnan who found Cian Doyle free in the middle and then Jason Hughes finished his through ball to the net with a powerful shot. Ten minutes later came the highlight of the game. David Njuki received the ball with his back to goal, he had the skill to knock it up and with an overhead kick the ball dropped over the goalkeeper and just under the bar for a spectacular goal that drew sustained applause.
