Limerick FC 0 – 0 FC Carlow

Dr Tony O’Neill Under 19 Championship – Southern Division

Saturday 3rd September 2011

Limerick FC faced FC Carlow in their second game of the Under 19 National League. In the first half both teams were evenly matched, there was a good tempo to the start of the game in the first 10 minutes. James McGrath showed great vision switching play from right to left, out to Aidan Boyle wide on the left, Aidan coming inside allowing for left back Anthony O’Donnell to overlap to force a corner. A short corner from Alex Scully to James McGrath caught out the Carlow defence to allow Scully to shoot, but it went over the bar.

Mid-way through the first half the Limerick defenders were slow to react to a direct ball over the top of the defence. Stephen Walsh pulled off a great save at the near post.

In the second half Oliver O’Driscoll had several scoring opportunities. Andrew Cowpar came on for the injured Aidan Boyle and was immediately in the attacking build-up play, and had a great chance to win the game only for a great save from Carlow’s keeper.

Cian Collins showed good interchange of passing and movement and also had a shot saved by the keeper. At this stage Limerick were well on top in the last twenty 20 minutes and pushed forward looking for the winner. This left openings for Carlow causing some anxious moments for their defenders Tino Nzvaura and Sean Barrett.

A game of missed chances for Limerick in a very competitive match.
