Limerick FC’s Alan Murphy started as the Republic of Ireland Under-18s defeated Wales on Monday night, but he was not involved in Tuesday’s clash between the two countries which ended in a draw.
Murphy (pictured right) – a recent addition to Tommy Barrett’s Under-19 squad having joined from Mervue United – joined up with Paul Osam’s side in Dublin on Saturday before travelling to Swansea the following day.
Osam selected Murphy to start against the Welsh at New Bridge Meadow Stadium in Haverfordwest on Monday evening, and the Irish went on to win by a single goal which came through a 72nd-minute penalty from Letterkenny Rovers’ Gareth Doherty.
Listen to Paul Osam’s thoughts after that victory, below.
Having played the full game there, Murphy was not involved in the second fixture against Wales at Genquip Stadium in Port Talbot on Tuesday afternoon. That game ended 1-1, with Ireland’s second-half equaliser coming from Salthill Devon’s Shane Hulgraine, after they had trailed at the break.
Well done to Alan on his call-up and performance.
