Limerick Scorers: Shane Trace (2), Barry Sheedy, Joe Gamble.

Wednesday 8th February 2012

Limerick FC progress to the semi-final stage of the Munster Senior Cup, where they will face Fermoy AFC (provisionally fixed for Monday 19 March), following a deserved 1-4 win at O'Shea Park, Blarney.

Blarney made a good start to the game, and were awarded a fortunate penalty after 10 minutes. Cathal O'Neill beat Shaun Kelly and as he clashed into Pat Purcell the referee pointed to the penalty spot. O'Neill took the spot kick himself to open the scoring. Within five minutes Limerick FC were back on level terms when Shane Tracy scored a terrific goal from outside the area into the top corner. Limerick FC then dominated for long periods with Shaun Kelly and Barry Sheedy going close too. As the half came to a close, Denis Behan won the ball in mid-field, his pass to Sheedy was slipped through to Tracy to make it 1-2 to the visitors. Sheedy should have added to the score line when Steven McGann put him through but the ball ran just wide of the far post.

In the second half Blarney were restricted to some half chances which David Ryan easily dealt with. The game was effectively over after 20 minutes when Eric Shenquin bundled Joe Gamble over in the area. Behan took the penalty that was saved by Blarney keeper, Ronan Byrne, but Sheedy was alert to put the rebound in the net. The fourth goal was all about Joe Gamble. The midfielder skipped past three or four tackles into the penalty area and confidently placed the ball in the corner. Sean Brosnan hit the bar late on as Limerick FC comfortably closed out the game.
