Limerick 37  5 - 1  Waterford United

Friday 17th October 2008

Consistent Limerick 37 chalked up one of their biggest wins of the season with a five goal rout of Waterford United at Jackman Park.

The Blues transmitted their earlier dominance to the scoreboard in the 13th minute when Dave Ryan brilliantly headed home Wayne Colberts cross from the right. However, the hosts lead was short lived as the ref was pointing to the spot a minute later when Paul Danaher was harshly adjudged to have fouled Vinny Sullivan – Gary Dunphy did the rest with an expertly taken penalty.

The visitors nearly edged ahead on the half hour mark, Willie John Kiely racing onto a through ball only to see his effort cleared from inside the six yard box by Danaher at the expense of a corner. The Shannonsiders went back in front in the 38th minute when Danaher redeemed his disputed foul on Sullivan to head home a Ryan corner from the right at the far post.

Lims doubled their advantage ten minutes after the interval when David Breen fouled Gary Sheehan inside the area and Paul Walsh converted from twelve yards. Sheehan then registered a stunning individual effort, running from 30 yards on the left before coolly dispatching a low drive into the corner of the net just past the hour mark.

Seventeen year old Jason Hughes compounded the misery for the visitors when he netted his first senior goal from inside the area in the 65th minute.
