Candystripes at Thomond; Match preview

Limerick FC welcome Derry City FC to Thomond Park for the first time tomorrow [Sunday 28th July] at 5pm for a game rescheduled as a result of the Candystripes’ Europa league game on Thursday last.

Stuart Taylor has no new injury worries; Pat Purcell, Jeffrey Judge, Steven McGann all remain on the long term injury list. Taylor does have to plan without Steven Folan though, the centre back, a sub last week against Shelbourne is suspended for tomorrow’s game. Speaking ahead of the tie Taylor was complimentary of his counterpart declan Devine and the work he’s done “Declan has done a fantastic job, winning the FAI Cup last season and keeping Derry at the top of the table and in title contention this season. They’ve got a lot of the qualities we’ll look to replicate in Limerick, building success with a predominantly local squad.”

The last meeting between the two sides saw the Candystripes victorious as the Superblues were unlucky to concede two late goals, having led for a long period. “I think we deserved a lot more out of that game” Taylor told earlier, “we were dominant for a long period and we certainly didn’t deserve to lose. We have an opportunity to right that result tomorrow, though following their loss in the Euorp[e league i expect that Derry will be keen to make amends and that this will be a tough test.”
